The hospital foundations in the Acadie-Bathurst Zone of Vitalité Health Network this morning inaugurated new equipment acquired thanks to the Roses Radiothon 2019. They also took the opportunity to launch next year’s event.
The objective for the 2019 event had been set at $150,000 but over $254,000 was raised. Thanks to this money, improvements are being made in Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology, Gastroenterology and the Surgical Suite. Furthermore, 80 percent of the money raised on the Acadian Peninsula will go directly to the hospitals in Lamèque, Tracadie and Caraquet.
“Year after year, people unite behind the Roses Radiothon and this cause that is so important to the future of our hospitals. It is thanks to events such as the Roses Radiothon that our hospitals can provide care of such high quality to the people of our region who need it,” stated Stéphane Legacy, the Network’s Vice-President of Outpatient and Professional Services.
This press conference also saw the 14th Annual Roses Radiothon officially launched. This year, the projects targeted for the Chaleur Regional Hospital will improve the services delivered by the Oncology Clinic, better equip other areas to treat cervical cancer and screen for bladder cancer, and add a piece of equipment used to perform prostate examinations. The facilities on the Acadian Peninsula will also benefit from this fundraising activity by acquiring equipment enhancing their health care.
Finally, the members of the Roses Radiothon organizing committees highlighted the important role of the community and of volunteers who, year after year, organize activities to raise funds in the fight against cancer. The committees also took the opportunity to announce joint activities to be held in coming months, such as the Pink Puck, sale of paper roses, and Giant Christmas Stocking. This year will also feature something new. Indeed, a number of key people from our communities are coming together to participate in the Movember fundraising event, with the money raised going in support of the Roses Radiothon.
“This year, one of the pieces of equipment to be purchased through the Roses Radiothon will allow a specific prostate examination to be performed at the Chaleur Regional Hospital. Men will no longer need to go outside the region for this examination. The timing seemed perfect for us to raise awareness of this cause and debunk the notion that the Roses Radiothon is solely a women’s event. We are very fortunate that these people have decided to support us and to participate in Movember,” explained Éric Robichaud, Chair of the Roses Radiothon for the Fondation Les Amis de l’Hôpital de Tracadie.
The Roses Radiothon 2020 will take place on April 24 in the Chaleur Region and on the Acadian Peninsula.
